Hi all,
I'm looking to go France next year and have heard that the locals go on their hols on and around Bastille day / 14 July. Can anyone confirm which weeks to avoid? is it the week either side of the 14th or 2 weeks after? All advice appreciated!
Cheers

Re: Bastille day avoid France?
The last weekend in July is best to avoid as a large part of France is either on the way South or on the way North. It is the crazy weekend. Any other time is fine, but it is holiday time in July and August just like in the UK, except we don't see lots of Dutch and Germans swarming into the UK as happens in France.

radman, Fete Nationale on 14th July is a great time to be in France. Loads of fireworks, public displays of all sorts going on. Another date to remember is Fete de la Musique on 21st June. Some villages celebrate this event on the nearest Saturday. Cahors in the Department of Lot is one of my favourite towns for this event.

living here in the Vendée we didnt even notice it really, apart from the fireworks...so I guess unless you are near a major town then you won't be bothered by it, unless you are offended by fireworks...!
