Replacement engine down south
After some recommendations. I live just outside Brighton and there is no VW specialists in the area. Need to get my T25 engine replaced plus get some bodywork done - any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
Re: Replacement engine down south
I wish I could recommend the vwenginecompany in Kent but I can't.

Re: Replacement engine down south
Myself and others have had nothing but trouble with their engines. I had to have my engine rebuilt by another company after they refused to honour their warranty. Good luck if you do decide to buy from them. Also, have a read of Siegfrieds reply on this thread. viewtopic.php?t=178176&start=45
Have you considered having your engine rebuilt?
With hindsight I wish I had used Andrew at campershack. Hes a member on here and 100% trustworthy.

Re: Replacement engine down south
A few years ago a friend sent an engine down to the above mentioned kent based workshop, along with £1800. They then totally ignored his calls and messages for months until he drove 250 miles down there to confront them.
They gave him an engine off the shelf which they had rebuilt for another customer, which had lumps of the engine casing around the join stuck on with epoxy so it leaked oil forever, then a lifter destroyed itself a few months later.
I bought a van that had an engine they'd built in it, just a few thousand miles old.
Leaking head gaskets and an absolutely terminal sounding tick. The cam and a lifter was totally wiped out, and on stripping the engine further we found it had done a big end bearing and the pistons/barrels were scrap, too.

Thanks for the endorsement Rob, but I think he's diesel. If so, AWEngineering at Darwen would be my recommendation.

I wish people would add their engines to their posts.

Re: Replacement engine down south
Sorry Rob for not adding full details! It’s a 1.6 diesel. Spoke to Doug also to Slaughterhouse. Either way it’s looking like an expensive problem and with the van requiring other work (new sliding door, couple of panels) I think the whole exercise is going to be a bit rich for me. When I last had a van in 2000 there were a number of mechanics around happy to work on her. Problem now is, certainly where we are based, there isn’t anyone. I am simply not mechanically minded and I think if you own one of these you really have to be.
So, thanks for all you input but I think we will be selling and giving someone else the opportunity to own one of these lovely vehicles. Absolutely gutted to have to make that decision, but there isn’t a bottomless pit of money!
