leisure battery
does anyone know if theres a leisure battery on the market that will fit under the passanger seat on mt 82 camper iv been told by local battery place that ill have to have a normal battery as the compartment is to small for a proper leisure job any help or advice would be great
Re: leisure battery
Worth having a look on the Wiki page, some really good info on there about all aspects of the van. Sure you will find something there
Re: leisure battery
I was told the same thing in battery shops, and couldnt find any leisure battery on the internet low enough (175mm) to fit under the seat. So in the end I went with an 075 starter battery. there are a couple of more threads on leisure batteries in the "electrical and Instrumentation" section.

Re: leisure battery
I went for one of these (or at least similar, mine is only 90ah, but the page now says 100ah):-
http://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/camper ... e-battery/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It doesn't fully fit under the seat though - I couldn't get the steel door thing to close with it in there - possibly because of where a cable comes up through the floor on mine making it stick up a bit too much. With the door removed (I now have a bit of carpet covering it instead) the seat can be moved back over the top, just.

Re: leisure battery
I just bought one of these to replace my main battery and its a perfect fit.
I am presuming the space under the passenger seat is the same size as the one under the drivers seat?

Re: leisure battery
I've got an 096 and it fouls the passenger seat. Can still swivel, just, it but it take a lot of jiggling to make sure it doesn't make contact with the metal frame. Fine under the driver's side

Re: leisure battery
Both the above suggestions will fit....both are 'low profile' 175mm tall.....and that's the important number as the 'common height size' is 190mm which are too tall.
I've always been a little bit sceptical of Alpha's claims that this battery (the last one linked) is truly rated at 100ah....it just seems very strange that they are the only supplier that can do this size/rating.....my scepticism aside, a few have been sold and used by owners on this site and I haven't seen many complaints (I have read a couple of comments about having to replace these at 2 - 3 years although they do carry a 4 year warranty).
The other issue is of course price...the 76ah linked to is just £45 so you are paying nearly double for the extra 24% capacity.

Re: leisure battery
Finally got round to fitting the Xplorer 12V Volkswagen T25 100 AH Campervan Leisure Battery yesterday
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171258461691" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I can confirm it fits EXACTLY in the space under the passenger seat. Unfortunately, if you have a swivel seat like me then you will have to do a bit of jiggery pokery in order to drop the battery in.
Ended up removing the passenger seat (simple enough) and the swivel base (not so simple when the 2 nuts/bolts fastening into the wheel arch look like they've been there the entire 25 years of the vans life!) but it's in now and working perfectly.
Only other thing I had to do was alter the battery compartment cover slightly as the bits of wood underneath that keep it from sliding off were in the way with this bigger battery in.

Re: leisure battery
YUP ^^^^^^^ advertised as 100AH @ 100hrs rate of measuring (these are actually 88AH @ the standard 20hour rate everyone else uses) which is a very cunning way of making their battery seem better than it actually is.
Still 88AH isn't bad but it does make the purchase seem less of a bargain at £85.00

12V 90ah @ 100hr
80ah @ 20 hr
Still better than the 60ah one that I've got now though.. will test with my solar panel (when it arrives from China) first with the original one and the new fridge on full, but will keep this one in mind as an upgrade..

Re: leisure battery
Just checking the latest word on this..
I need a couple of leisure batteries for under the seats,
ruined mine some time ago:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171258461691" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
are these still the best to buy,
could be something better by now?

Re: leisure battery
Maybe a bit better, or so Alpha Batteries say:
https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/volks ... y-battery/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"At 175mm height and in those dimensions there are no pure deep cycle batteries available in Europe. The best battery you can fit is a modern Bosch silver starter battery which is designed for modern onboard electrics in premium vehicles"
From the website:
Modern 85AH Bosch Silver battery with starting and leisure use capability. Ideal for underseat fitment in VW Campers. We would recommend checking the space you have available to see if you can fit this battery or the next size down which is 74AH. The Bosch S5 Battery range is ideal for vehicles with higher than normal electrical drains.
I am interested to hear what other opinions there are about this option,
or wether there are other options, even perhaps the ones we are using already,
and as I am doubling up that might be sufficient.
The van is planned to use a gas heater (fan power) and compressor fridge, not much more than that.
I may get solar at some point when theres funds and I can work out what to get.
