Dehler Profi roof transplant onto a Syncro
Just gone and taken delivery of a cannibalised Dehler Profi rolling shell, with the intention of transplanting the roof onto my Syncro camper. I think this is going to be the start of a long thread! Photos to follow.

No, the van has been well gutted. It's got remnants of a shower but not much more. I'm impressed with the ingenuity of the Dehler interiors but they're not my cup of tea. I'm pressing on with my homebrew interior for now.B.J wrote:Do you have a Delhi Interior too?

Re: Dehler Profi roof transplant onto a Syncro
Here 'tis
I must be mad intending to put that on this
Interior of donor is minging
and smells of cat wee
front sunroof looks awright
roof needs TLC but at least looks like it'll come off the donor easily!
drivers side top window louvre showing internal state of frame with no glass. Glass here somewhere but detached.
passenger side top window same as above
cupboard over cab has seen better days
there's a whopping hole in the roof! Skylight removed (another supplied but not same size )
Sorry about poor photos. My digicam has bust and the smartphone camera aint the best.
Well, I think I've got my work cut out for the rest of the year! Plan is to nab roof. It came to me as 4 wheels, steerable and shell. No engine, gearbox, lectrics. I could break it as separate doors etc, weigh it on for scrap or sell it on as a very bare roofless rolling shell. Not made my mind up yet so please PM me with your thoughts. The LHD shell trundled off the production line in Jan 1985 and is in surprisingly good nick underneath and up the seams.
Intention is to photo document roof coming off so I can record how its fitted. Once its off a fairly thorough fiberglass restoration inside and out before fitting to my van in place of Westfalia poptop and then off to paintshop to match the Syncro grey.

Shell is 253(LHD) which Brickyard reports is 'Kombi, basically a panelvan with windows.'

Top effort Parick. Personally I think it's the best looking roof ever made. Looking forward to seeing the pics. If you need inside space to do the initial refit onto your van your welcome to come down and use my unit. The guy it did mine will be close by if you need any help. Best of luck and keep the photos coming. Cheers Rich.
What are you going to do with your pop top? May be interested myself

I'm slightly taken aback by what I've put myself up for, having never done this kind of thing before, but when I look at photos like this I'm reminder why I'm doing itDrytooler wrote:if you dont like the roof any more...

So sorry, roof not for sale. But do you wanna buy a roofless LHD Kombi shell?

It will look cracking when its done Patrick. Especially with matching paint. A toss up though whether its a bigger committment than building a 2.1 DJ which is my current obsession!

Das ist Wacken, Ya?
Nice nice nice I love 'em, even the bonkers side windows and mouldings (moldings? Always get that wrong but it goes well with the whiffy cat pee theme)syncropatrick wrote:

Brave man Patrick; thats quite a project! Lesser souls would have waited a long time for the right Dehler van to come along; sold the 16 and done the homebrew interior way round Your going to have this finished for Syncropendence right
If you need a pair of hands Im happy to give any assistance i can.
