fuel tank.
just removed the fuel tank to sort a leak when full, this turned out to be a broken plastic fitting on the top of the tank , decided to clean and paint the tank while its out and noticed a small hole in the bottom of the tank , should this be there ? this is a South African van.

Re: fuel tank.
I'm not sure these tanks are available new , it might have to be repaired.
what i cant get my head around is i only had a fuel leak when the tank was brimmed , the van is in daily use and has not leaked any fuel in 6 months , after removing the tank i only wire brushed it for painting , this hole must have been there before , if it wasn't raining i would put the fuel back in and see if it leaks.

Re: fuel tank.
just put a little fuel in the tank and watch it p out, no need to fit it first

Re: fuel tank.
I saw a wheeler-dealer episode recently, where they had a fuel tank hole repaired with a soldered-on lead patch. Might be worth looking into if you cannot source another tank.

Re: fuel tank.
I have a large plastic container to stand the tank on anything that leaks will just go in there , just waiting for the rain to stop , there seems to be various epoxy repair stuff on google anybody used any of these ?

Re: fuel tank.
The problem is if it has rusted inside out due to water sitting in the bottom of the tank, there may be a lot more holes in waiting.
Personally I would use the solder approach rather than epoxy, brazing if you are competent with brass ( not that difficult ). ( after complete ventilation of petrol fumes of course ) Epoxy would suffice in an emergency but likely to fail in the long term.

Re: fuel tank.
doesn't look like its rusted , the tank is really solid ,actually looks more like a drill hole.
