1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
Hi, folks. My beloved Ziegel (P.5. Engine number JX198413)suffered gearbox failure almost a year ago and has since been sitting on the yard of my local and otherwise excellent mechanic.
The garage has an open and ongoing search for a replacement; either salvaged or recon', etc but so far nothing has come up.
I'm sure I should have jumped on it earlier but I've started to get the impression that the job of finding one is mine.
Where do I begin to identify which cogbox it is?
Thanks in advance.
TonyR.

1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
Plan A: Get the mech. to remove it and put it on a pallet, get a courier to pick it up, send it to Aidan
Plan B: Clean the casing to reveal the gearbox code, Google code, gamble and buy the second hand one the interweb throws up.

Edited for accuracy
Re: 1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
The code along with the date code is near the bottom below the reverse switch and usually hard to read ,in my case it’s 3H . (ASS also 5 speed TD)
As has been said best get your existing gearbox reconditioned.

Thanks for the reply, double0seven. I popped over to the garage today to try to find the code but it's too feint to read. Planning on going back tomorrow with more time and maybe try to make a rubbing. Was initially hoping to have the box rebuilt but the two places where we have enquired didn't want the job as (I think - will check tomorrow) it's the output shaft that failed....

Cheers Cobblers.
Point taken
As I mentioned to double0seven, I would prefer to have the box repaired but I'm starting to worry that failed part is not available but will know more tomorrow.

Thanks, Cecil. Did try to read it today but it's too feint. Going back tomorrow and will try to make a rubbing...
Yep - hoping for a rebuild
Re: 1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
Hi folks.
Update.
It's the input shaft which has failed.
The two box rebuilders we've contacted have said the part isn't available....?

3 in stock !
If this is what your gearbox needs is is readily available . Just needs the bell housing taken off and the shaft detached via its collar and cir- clip and threaded stud. It would need a new gasket and oil seal. The threaded stud in not meant to be done up tight, rather it should allow the shaft to be slightly Wobley ( the spigot bearing supports it once it’s bolted to the engine) not really that specialist a job. Unless it has caused other damage. Also oil must be GL4.

Huge thanks, Cecil. Have forwarded to my mech. I think the splined sleeve is badly worn too and maybe the brass bushing thru the bell housing needs replacing. Hopefully your lead will connect to any other bits needed.
PS. Should there be a circlip around the middle of the shaft? It looks as tho something was there....
Thanks again Cecil.
Re: 1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
Cir clip is by the splined sleeve . No cir clip in the middle of the input shaft.
Re: 1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
What state is your crankshaft spigot bearing in , broken up or maybe completely missing .

Re: 1990 T25 TD5 gearbox
If the spigot bearing has gone then you might want to think about getting the clutch replaced at the same time.

Hi folks. Thanks for your help so far.
We're struggling to find a replacement splined sleave - which connects both pieces of the input shaft. Any pointers would be welcome?
