Hi all
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me eak a few more mpg out of my 1982 2l hi top. Currently getting around 15 mpg. Spent a while reading around various sires/threads and it seems I should be expecting somewhere between 20-26mpg. Is there anything mechanically I should be getting checked out (a novice in this area!).
Don't top 60mph and whether it's motorway, A roads or commute it always seems to return the same. Tyres on the alloys (on when I bought) are 235/45/17. Looking to go smaller (225 or 215) but don't expect this to make a noticeable difference.
I know these things guzzle, and never expected a cheap ride, but from what I've read it seems I should be getting better. Any ideas much appreciated.

Re: fuel consumption on 2l
which the chokes connected , high top and bigger tyres I think it is about right , all depends how you drive it , I fitted bigger jets binned the auto chokes and the mpg improved to high 20s on a run but it improved even more when I uprated the engine to 2400cc
Re: fuel consumption on 2l
Thanks for the reply, faggie. Is fitting the jets a big/expensive job? Not mechanically adept so would probably have to pay to have it done. Sounds like it could be worthwhile. Equally, what's involved in uping the engine to 2400?
