Ok my heater hose from the cylinder head to the front heater valve has split at the cylinder head end.
Anyone know the size as the flange of the head is large .
Ideally, I would like to cut and spice with an insert rather than change the whole pipe to the front if possible
Has anyone done this?

Re: Heater hose size
Cannot find my recent search finds in the topic.
IIRC the hose ID is 19mm and the flange is 25mm.
There is a generic Gates hose in the us, which is the same size and all inline 4 vw engines had the same heater hose size so I assume there is an aftermarket available here too.
E D I T: Gates 18965 is the US hose
E D I T 2: the 025121058E hose of the petrol looks promising, but I could not find any size data

Re: Heater hose size
Is this what you're looking for? Check the size though, they do all different sizes.

Re: Heater hose size
Ok so the straight connector for 25 to 19 in a dimension also need a 19 to 19 connector, but is it definitely 19 because on the WIKI? I’m seeing 5/8ths which is just under 16 mm

Re: Heater hose size
I am out of charted territory here, but on my DF / DG / DH 1983 petrol engine with rigid cross-engine pipe...
The equivalent flange is 25mm...
Paying closer attention to the heater hoses...
The stub that the heater matrix hose connects to is 16mm.
This is also borne out by a matrix link piece at the front of the van that is a straight 16mm connector.
(Available from Brickwerks and all the other usual suppliers).
I know the rigid radiator hoses changed diameter with the implemetation of the later cooling system, but I was / am not aware that the heater matrix hoses are any different between earlier and later set-ups.
And, I would not expect any difference between a stock diesel set-up and a wasserboxer...
Meaning that forward of the engine bay, pipework that your engine is grafted onto should be more or less the same stock sizes.
