Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
Hi all, my van's running a 1.9TDI conversion, engine code ALH.
It's very smokey on start up, no smoke when idling but lots of smoke when revved. I've noticed an issue round the injector on the attached picture. There was a rough looking loose rubber cap over that nipple, obviously not meant to be there and when i pulled it off diesel stared coming out of it. Please excuse my limited mechanical knowledge, but please could someone explain what is/should be going on here? Thanks

Re: Diesel Injector Querie
That is an AAZ indirect diesel,a piece of leak back pipe with a bolt will do as a temporary fix till you get the proper one,the injector pump should have a vacuum fuel enrichment devise on it to give more fuel when boosting assuming it has a turbo on it,ALH is a TDI,definitely not that engine, engine code will be on a machined surface,on the block, below the red temperature sensor in the middle picture

Re: Diesel Injector Querie
Hi all many thanks for the quick replies.
ID wise all I can see on the block is 028 103 373J which I think is the cylinder head part number? And the figures 8WNO slightly further to the right.
Is my missing part likely to be causing the smoke issues?
Here's a pic of the whole engine bay if someone can say 100% what engine it's got.
Really appreciate the help.

Re: Diesel Injector Querie
Thanks all for the advice, I've now created what I think is a temporary fix with a piece of diesel leak off pipe (pic below). Can somebody advise if this is ok, but also where should this pipe route to permanently?

Re: Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
It does not go anywhere, it is sealed off with the manky rubber cap that you have taken off that was meant to be there!

Re: Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
Much appreciated! That ropey old cap was leaking and my dodgy creation has cured it I"ll leave well alone for now! The van kicks out quite a bit of blue smoke on start up, none when idling and a fair bit when revved. Where would I be best of starting investigations? Cheers

Re: Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
Blue smoke is usually oil burning, could be oil in the inlet pipe work from worn engine breathing heavily, valve stem oil seals gone hard from old age, turbo seals leaking into air inlet pipes, poor compression not burning the diesel, poor spray patten from warn injectors, timing set incorrectly not burning all the diesel, smoke will smell of diesel not oil diesel.engine identification code is on a machined surface,on the engine block below the red sensor on the water outlet on the cylinder head

Re: Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
Yeah blue smoke is oil, on start up normally valve stem seals. Does itsmoke on over run or just when underload. If underload could be turbo leakimg oil.
Over run blue smoke probably steam seals
Over run blue smoke probably steam seals

Re: Diesel Injector Querie UPDATE
Thanks all for the replies. I'm booking it in with a mechanic to see if I can get to the bottom of the smoke issues, I'll report back when it's been looked at.
