Re: Alternator issues
You could do what VW did on some of their later cars:
Make an arrangement so that opening the drivers door triggers the fuel pump relay. The fuel system is then always up to pressure when you first crank the key (injection) or the carb bowls are full.

Re: Alternator issues
The best way is to fit a tachometric relay although not the cheapest, pumps fuel as soon as the engine starts cranking from the coil switching signal.

Re: Alternator issues
Thought my fuel pump issues were solved!
Broke down on way to campsite on south coast on Friday.
Luckily it was about 300m from Motorline Engineering in Firle who got me back up and running. The fuse (7.5A) to the fuel pump had blown.
Anyway, got as far as the Norman's Bay campsite (lovely campsite by the way!) with no further issues.
Only got a few miles up the road the next day and the same thing happened. Complete faff taking off the bike rack to get at the engine bay to replace the fuse. 2 more miles, cut out again. I cut my losses at this stage and got lifted by the recovery van to get home.
I don't know what's causing the issue as it's been running fine since installing the new pump up until now. Maybe a short circuit somewhere.
Anyway, I'm going to order a tachometric relay and rewire the whole thing with the fuse up near the glove box so I don't have to worry about accessing the engine bay while stopped at the side of the road.
Anyone else have any issues with pumps blowing fuses?

Re: Alternator issues
Facets draw less than 3A, Unlikely to be the pump unless there is a short in the pump. Check the wiring routing for chafing against the body.Paradise City wrote:Facet posi flo, 1.5-4psi

Re: Alternator issues
Going to rewire it with new relay. Hopefully that'll sort it. Otherwise it's probably a faulty pump.

Re: Alternator issues
Quick question before I start wiring. On the coil, which is terminal 1 and which is terminal 15?

Re: Alternator issues
Had a similar problem with a Riley 1.5 which was parked up for long spells. I put an electric pump in parallel with the manual pump between the manual pump and the carb. Switch on, the electric pump primes, but once started the manual pump takes over the supply, pressurises the electric pump which then stops, so no complicated wiring. Just wire the electric pump straight to an ignition supply

Re: Alternator issues
Unfortunately the facet electric pump has to be as near to tank as possible. It pushes rather than pulls fuel through.

Re: Alternator issues
I think I've found the short anyway which is a relief.

Will have to protect the new cables a bit more when rewiring.
