Hi Guys,
I bought some 7J x 15 ET37 Merc Steels a while back hoping they would fit straight onto my early (83) 2WD T25. They have 215 75 R15 tyres on.
Unfortunately the front steels are fouling the brake disk carrier.
The rear ones seem OK.
I am guessing I need spacers and longer bolts?
Can anyone advise how wide the spacers need to be with these wheels? I don't want to go so wide they end up fouling something else.

The wiki above states 15 x 7 ET30 - 32. Does this mean I need to buy spacers 5 - 7 mm for my ET37 steels?
Cheers

5mm spacer will do the job and i would guess longer bolts needed as well. Only issue i can see is this will exaggerate the usual appearance of the front wheels sitting further out in the arches than the rears, unless you space the rears as well which means longer studs and the associated work in removal of old ones and fitting new. If it was me I'd sell them on and get a set with the right offset/ET

I have ordered some 6mm spacers for the front. Hopefully they won't look too silly as it is only 6mm.
Strange as the seller had these on a syncro with no spacers fine. There must be a slight different offset for 2WD and Syncro.
On a side note how far does the stud 'go past' the brake disk face? I.e if the new steels have the same depth as VW steels have I got 6mm I can sacrifice?

Yes strange but i would guess (and it's only a guess!) that with the Syncro being 4WD geometry is different, certainly some parts are Syncro specific.
Re longer bolts, the simplest thing would be add 5 - 6mm to whatever the standard ones are, that way you keep them fitted as VW intended however a better solution would be to speak to Brickwerks and get studs for the front with the associated nuts, fitting spacers with wheel bolts is a pain in the backside as you have nothing to locate the spacer on before offering up the wheel

Firstly I need to see if the Merc Steels have a bigger distance from the bottom of the wheel nut seat to the rear bolt face of the wheel.
Not really sure what the easiest way to measure it is, anyone know if the information is online? I am struggling to locate it.
If the same as the VW steels I can just add 6mm to standard bolt length.

You need different bolts and nuts anyway because the radius of the bolt shoulder is different. Brickwerks sell them.

Are you sure? I have read conflicting advice on that.
A line on the wheel section of the wiki states:
They have not been bored out to 14mm so hoping they are OK with standard radius as this suggests.

I guess if they are already M14 they are likely to be OK but I would check with Brickwerks, Mefro wheels take M14 studs without drilling but have r12 seats.
