Replaced diesel spill off blank and now won't start

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

You have lots of choice.
Check out the alternatives in the wiki or on the alternative engines forum

That's the problem at the moment, I have too many choices!

I like the idea of keeping the original engine in good condition but it's difficult to know the true cost of rebuilding until you are already commited.

I don't have the skill/knowhow to fit an alternative engine and it's probably not cheap to pay someone to source and fit something different!

Lots of researching and head scratching to come!

By far and away the simplest swap is to an AAZ engine.
It's a well trodden path with a lot of experience on here.

I have to respectfully disagree with Kev here. The AAZ engine is a good alternative as he says, but it is a turbo engine, and your existing KY is non-turbo, which means you'll have to source quite a few parts to do the swap. If you went for a 1.9 non-turbo engine like a 1Y out of a Golf, or an AEF out of a Polo or a Skoda Felicia it makes the swap much simpler, and the characteristics of the engine will suit your existing gearbox better. The downside is less power of course, but more than you had with the KY! I have an AEF and have been more than pleased with the results. There is a complete guide to the AEF swap here http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/16cs- ... KW=#413096" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Others have printed that thread and given it to their mechanic to do the work.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.
