WFYKMDACHFO = (why for you kick my dog and call him foook off)
It appears you have one of the afore mentioned machines and are familiar with the differences, why don't you tell us and make a name for your self,,
Regards
Fritz,,,,,,,,
PS, I must admit they do stand out from the european models ( except CARAT models see below ) mainly due to the obviously larger side windows, and the 5 cylinder Audi motors on the petrol variants .

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
Thanking you!
Windows are identical to Carat apart from the chrome filler strip in the rubber. It's the coolant pipes that have got me going (ignorance) - do all models efi or carb have the water pipes appearing in the OSF corner of the engine bay? Asking because the scoob conversion ones are crrrrapp! Would like rjes pipes.
Since the original motor is long gone, I'm really trying to avoid the "take two" mail order fiasco when it comes to spares.
Bet your seat belts don't say "made in Cape Town"!

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
I passed my driving test in this South African microbus in 1987.
It had a larger petrol tank without the heating duct cut out. It had green tinted glass all round, she was a bog standard 1.9DG. Bought from a VAG dealer in the UK. Same size windows, and probably not a Uitenhag bus.

After that Utube clip I think that I have just gone to stage 2 in my relapse of "old car disease" - I WANT A SYNCHRO AND I WANT TO GO OFFROAD! That trip looked really - only one word for it - cool.
What's a Uitenhag? My bus has tinted glass and a tank with what I thought was a propshaft "tunnel" like a synchro.
Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
Uitenhage South Africa is where the VW factory is. I will make a wild stab at this and say that the small window SA vans started life in Germany, whilst the bigwindow vans were made in SA at Uitenhage.
As time went on VW SA started getting fed up with the Germans for not increasing the power , and wanted to fit an engine that was already being built there, and made probably the best T3 ever, the 5 pot big window. Only a factory 5 pot diesel would have been better, but then only after turbo, intercooler, oil cooler (yawn)
I was born out there and my dad has imported several Sa VW's.

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
Thanks synchrosimon
The commission plate reads VW South Africa Pty. etc. so that nails it.
I think that the old GL5 lump would have been just as much fun as the scoob, but that's what we've got!
Just got to get the aircon up and running superpronto otherwise there's no point finishing the greenhouse at home.

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
As the 2.3 and 2.6 5 pots are fuel injected can they be chipped, if so is there anyone in the UK that could do it?
Are they just a modified Audi 80/100 motor?
