Re: New Wintery tyres
worth mentioning that in the short term, adding weight above the rear wheels makes a difference in the snow in a van with near 50/50 weight distribution like the T25, around 100kg of weight over the back end in mine made a real difference in getting around after the recent snowfall, more would probably be better still, ok the fuel consumption carrying more weight is going to change, but if it gets you to work and back instead of sitting there spinning your wheels, it's worth a try! winter tyres on another set of rims are looking like a good plan tho, as i want to get out to snowdonia and the lakes more this winter for hillwalking/climbing weekend trips, so it's good to read people's experiences of them.

Right folks, a question
I have a spare set of wheels that *could* be fitted out with wintery tyres. What weather determines wintery and what happens if you run wintery all year? In all honesty, we only had 2 weeks of bad weather where we were, and only 1 week where the roads were impassable. Of that week, the office was closed for 2 days!
Just dunno what to do for the best, really.

Winter tyres are fine to run and will give better grip in temps under 7 deg C
All you'll do if you run them in warmer weather is wear them out quicker
Which is why it's best to have a summer and a winter set on spare wheels that you can just swap round

Re: New Wintery tyres
Well finally fitted my winter wheels today and went out for a little run , must say I really like the feeling , hardly any road noise and after 14 months of 225x18 40's like having power steering , just seems to flow over speed humps rather than crashing into them and potholes no longer jar the bones , my old steels came up a treat after a bit of refurb , I may even keep stock set up , just need a set of steels now to put summers on .
Roll on winter !!! I want snow and I want it now !!!
