How to remove and replace a hightop

Post by booster24 »

Wanted one of those high tops with the rack on the back , mine will be turning up soon but I would like to know whats the best way to remove a hightop and methods of reinatalling one. I dont want to damage my old high top as its in great condition and want to sell it. Any ideas please.

It's not really complicated. Remove all screws, bolts etc. Cut the sealant loose. Carefully lift and make sure everything is free. Have plenty of manpower and lift it off. if in doubt, find someone who has the knowhow to help.

high top help

Post by sean collins »

High there booster. Still not sure but am thinking about replacing my side elevating with a high top. If you are selling your old one and want you need a bit more help removing it perhaps I can come and give a hand getting it of and have a look at the same time.

Thanks for the replies, does'nt sound to difficult. Hi Sean , yup I'm selling my high top, its in excellent condition with no marks and side windows, I'm in Rustington near Worthing so not far from you, I'm going to construct a make shift lifting device to take it off so no damage will occur, looking for about £150 for it.

Don't try to remove a hi-top fitted by Yorkshire Conversions ... they fit them using fibreglass resin and matting .. on the inside seam ! No screws, no Sikaflex .. just fibreglass.

What I said was it's not complicated. I didn't say it wasn't difficult.
Cutting the sealer/bonding caulk can be very difficult. Sometimes it helps to be lifting the topper a little while cutting it free. This can sometimes help keep your knife from binding up as much. A thin long flexible very sharp blade helps.. like a filet knife.

Good Luck1

Hi Sean, If you would like to come down and help remove and then take away the high top with you then that would be awsome and of course if your helping to remove it then I will take that in to consideration of the sale. I'm buying my different hightop from a breakers and as soon as the have sold the interioror then its mine so I think early next week or not this weekend but the next one will be promising.

Ok Pete,
weekend after next should be ok for me, but let me know when you are sure. I am not 100% decided to go for the high top option or not, but still don't mind giving you a hand. (if it looks like I can replace my hinged top myself i will probably go for it.) i'd better check wiki before I ask anyone else what is involved in swapping.
Sean.

Hello Pete,
The other half seems decidedly against the high top look. My head says the high top is the better option but my heart says it spoils the look a bit. Sorry mate but I won't be after your high top after all.
Sean :(
