Hi. Thanks for coming back to me.

It has had three thermostats since last June. Cannot believe they would all be malfunctioning.

The system has been bled several times and especially when the new dalek cap was fitted.  A couple months ago  we found a very small hole in a water pipe over the engine - replaced immediately.  I think the work next week will be to examine all water pipes, heat exchangers/matrix system etc. As I mentioned  before the garage it is going to has a rolling road, so will be able to run it and check pipes for leaks/drops etc.

I note there hasn't been any mention of the engine being under warranty. Have you had any dialogue with the VW Engine Company regarding these problems?

Hi
Yes, the engine is still under warranty, and they have been very supportive and are still trying to help. They are currently not convinced that it is the engine. I shipped the camper down to them and they checked etc. and decided it was the dalek cap - bled, pressurised etc. No charge for all the checks and road tests... I collected it and drove the 800 miles but now overheated again.   Current thoughts are if it was the engine failing then it would constantly/regularly overheat.   Haven't worked out or understood the link to the cab heating yet.

Just stripping a DG today, and found this Image. If it was in your water pump, this is a likely cause.

Nothing as bad as that. Mine had some white thin strips - have a photo, but seem to be restricted in uploading it. Will try in a bit.

Hi.  Are you saying the white strips are not sealant?  I feel I am being misled and misinformed by all sorts of people who have been working on my van!

If you mean these that I have circled then OBG is correct, they are the leading/trailing edge of the waterpump vanes

The garage has apparently found three small pinprick holes in two water pipes and a gasket (not engine). Highly likely that this will have caused airlocks - which explains the random overheating. I'll get camper back next week and then finger crossed!
