Hi, can anyone shed some light on a possible gearbox swap. I bought a 1989 dg engined 5 speed panel van to use as a donor for my jx engined camper and was given advice re input shaft . The gearbox code from the diesel is 3H 1405 7 I think but the dg one is 6ND7 029 as far as I can tell and I haven't seen any code that comes near that one. Does anyone know different or do I just need to buy more brillo pads?

Hi, better leave me to it, now it looks more like '3P' so better specs will save anyone wasting their time.

most likely it is ABN 07 02 9 which is same ratios as 3H, 3H was built 14 may 1987, the ABN 7 Feb 1989
only difference between 3H and ABN is the input shaft and bellhousing, diesel and petrol respectively

Thanks Aidan, you're absolutely spot on. More wire brushing today revealed a worn 'A'. I'm still not sure if that's an 'M' rather than an 'N' but the list I've found said 'ABM' gearboxes had an LSD? The van was a service hack for 'Jungheinrich' in the 90s, I can still make out the faded lettering. The three digit code stamped on the casting in front of the flywheel is 396. I haven't been able to see the longer serial number at the base of the oil filler, breather thingy, still drowning it all in Plusgas before I try to remove brackets etc. Thanks again.

in neutral both wheels in the air if you rotate one wheel the opposite wheel will rotate in the same direction if it has an lsd, in the opposite direction if it's a normal diff
