I'm using a 228mm solid Golf flywheel, VR6 pressure plate and friction plate, and TDI input shaft.

Didn't know the Sharan was so different, checked on ETOS and indeed the Sharan AFN DMF is specific to the Sharan only. Sachs catalogue shows it having 23 teeth vs 28 for 'normal' TDI. Also its 220mm vs 228mm for the Golf one. The Golf AFN DMF should OK, but your probably just better getting a cheap SMF TDI setup off Ebay or wherever.

so did i count my input shaft wrong then ( i counted 27 well my mate counted it .. as i dont have it with me )

also i can i just buy a complete SMF TDI setup ? including flywheel ?

as everything i see on ebay is a replacement for dual mass , i am worried that getting a replacement wont fit either ! ( ie splines etc ) .. but maybe if i got a replacment SMF for a golf it would be fine ?

Your easiest/cheapest solution is to get a 1Z Golf flywheel and clutch. Use a new Sachs release bearing. Also worth R&R'ing the release shaft while you're at it. Don't forget to apply grease where needed as per manual.

eg. Flywheel (don't pay £80 though, I got one for £20)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-G60-2 ... 2572982779" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Clutch (I got a good used one for £20)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Sachs-VR6 ... 1e6ab7a465

plus try 'wanted' ads on here and BY, etc.

I have a golf 1Z flywheel and clutch in mine, so can confirm that it fits

what about this :

Also.....don't forget that when you finally the parts you need you will need to mark a good, clear TDC mark onto the rotating assembly as its all in the wrong place on golf stuff for a T3. Failing to do this makes future timing belt fiting nearly impossible to do.

cant you just rotate the engine until the camshaft lines up with that tool you use to lock it (without removing belts), then peer in the hole for TDC? sure i did that with the JX to check the timing hadn't slipped

Well kinda....but without a mark how can you be sure it's right?

If its a running engine before you start once you have locked the camshaft make your own mark on the flywheel, simples, as tbh after doing the belt you should check the timing with VCDS

Matt sorry only just seen your text, I used a JX flywheel and clutch, all I can suggest is looking on eBay mate
