Disappointment, but I know how it goes in a small business.

In the meantime, a little light water pump dismantling to build up the best bits.
A bit of gentle warming with a gas torch and a cheek puller (usually) prevents broken parts, but one impellor was made from very soft iron and crumbled like a stale biscuit :(
The original VAG pump had some nasty erosion due to cavitation, so it is junk.
I got lucky with an aftermarket pump that has an alloy 12 vane impellor (vs the original iron 8-vane) but it has a 16mm bearing spindle. The originals used the old ⅝" standard (15.88mm) but they all have a 30mm bearing and still use the 1.437" (36.5mm) diameter seal assembly.
The pump bodies also seem to have very variable tolerances and detailing to both the water inlet (important to prevent the onset of cavitation) and the transfer pipe outlet (some smaller than the gasket/pipe bore, easily fixed. Some larger, so the gasket makes a step facing the flow. Not good)
A lightly used "GK" German-branded pump was the most suitable for some smoothing and port work, this will get the 12-vane and the bearing has a hole for grease, which I can exploit ;)
I have a new seal too, common to another venerable 4x4...ImageImageImageImage

PS as part of the reassembly, I set the impellor vanes about 15 thou' (about 0.4mm) off its seating to make it as efficient as possible. Its an old-fashioned rule of thumb that applies to "rebuildable" water pumps.
A lot of 025 pumps seem to come with a massive gap, so they dont perform as well as they could do.

That is Daniel's bus. He had made noises about selling it.

In the meantime, I have finally worked out the inlet pipe, so that everything will clear and work properly. I will have to make a linkage with small balljoints, but it will work with the standard RHD 2.1 throttle cable.
Ended up flipping the throttle body over 180degrees, cutting the original pipe again (twice) and adding an alloy 60mm elbow from Darkside Developments.
Then I made a jig for the fabricators to keep it all in line, they were happy! Hope to have it back very soon...

It's great how much care you've taken on your jig - you've even signed it.

It discourages the unscrupulous from "borrowing" one's photos (also covering a hastily scribbled note)

Me too! I fear that the recent crisis has worsened my prospects for getting my camshaft(s) back :(

I got a response from Newman Cams! They are operating with 3/10 staff, but my ones will he back from heat treatment next week (suggesting that they have been roughed down and will only need the final cut to get the true profile and the journals to size)
I got my last bit of TIG welding done for the crankcase ventilation & idle air feed, now I have to work out what will work best with the minimum number of fittings while jumping from19/20mm to 22mm and back down again.
I am not convinced by Oettinger's peculiar arrangement with a second oil/air separator and one-way Pierburg valve, which appears to allow the engine to breathe unmetered air from a second small filter under certain conditions...
