2.1 MV engine
Hi I'm going to fit a 2.1 MV engine into my van and was wondering can I use it with out the oil cooler as it did not come with the engine thanks
Re: 2.1 MV engine
I'll take a punt with yes you can. If you mean the one attached to oil filter mount normally found on DJ? Are you changing from DG to MV?

Hi yes I do mean the one that fit between the oil filter and I'm changing to a 2.1 MV engine as I blow up my 1.9 DG and the MV engine come up for sale cheap .
Re: 2.1 MV engine
If fitting oil cooler...about 50 quid new from Brickwerks, then you will need correct thermostat housing and pipework too.

Well my pal fitted a DJ in place of his DG several years ago without this cooler.
And there's been no issues.

Re: 2.1 MV engine
I replaced my 1.9DG with a 2.1MV some 5 years ago and didn't fit the factory oil cooler (oil warmer). I've had no overheating issues but I don't know the condition of the bottom bearings to be honest, but 5 years is not to be sniffed at. It'll probably outlive my ownership requirements based on how well it pulls & feels to me. I did fit a 30mm oil pump & an 80 Deg thermostat though, which may help.
Bit of can of worms amongst the members here, various opinions all been discussed here before. I guess it's your call, your van.
From memory, I think the reason I did not fit it initially was not having the pipework from the DG. I do monitor the oil temp via a guage on the dash. It never goes over 120C, even when I'm doing 90mph (on a private road)
The engine builders always fit them.

Re: 2.1 MV engine
My 2.1 DJ needs an oil cooler. It would regularly run at over 130 /140 degrees C without. I fitted a sandwich plate and a thermostatic valve to mine and a 26 row oil cooler next to the gearbox . Now It runs 90 -100 unless I really work it hard up a hill when it may reach 110 in the summer.

Re: 2.1 MV engine
I think we can safely say DJ’s need cooling because they are high compression engines. MV’s are low compression engines.

Re: 2.1 MV engine
Yes MV's are borderline but its not difficult to fit one and some of the chinese ones are OK. probably 150-200 pounds in total with stat plate and hoses. With Synthetic Oil you are probably OK without unless you tow or do alot of fast motorway runs.
