Light machine oil

It's amazing how many ways the question "what oil for my van" can be asked.

Can't say I have in eight years of ownership. Nor in my Morris Minor in forty years of daily use. More worried about getting oil on the rotor arm than premature wear.
I don't know where I am, but I'm having a lovely time!

You must have gone to the same school as me........ that is precisely what I meant when I wrote light machine oil. I still have some left in a 5 litre container my dad had from the '80's

When I first had my tin top it would cut out while driving at speed then start again normally. it was random when it did it.
One day it kept doing it while out on the road. I tried lots of things and finally fixed it by spraying wd40 deep indlside the distributor.

I came to the conclusion it hadn't been oiled in 20 years and the weights were sticking.

Yep, 3in1.
Didn't old points have a felt pad?

And sort of on the same subject, the Advance and Retard vacuum went a few years ago when we were in The Peaks so really struggled. Called in the Green Flag and told the mechanic what I thought the problem was; he had no idea what a vacuum advance unit was. He looked about 12 too.
Are we going on anything else?

Points have a fibre pad, so you put a 1/2 smidgeon of grease on the rotor shaft..

I am in a local vw air cooled club, and always carry a spare P'n'C distributor..

Amazing the amount of times it gets borrowed.......
