I've seen up to around 80 out of my DF...in reality though for economy and engine health I tend to stick around 60-65, any more than this and you realy notice the consumption jump up, especially with the extra drag of a high top.

Novastrike wrote:Hi folks,

I was chatting to some beetle owning friends regarding my 1.9 watercooled t25. They seemed very surprised at my comment that it was maxing out around 60-65 mph. This seemed reasonable to me.

Can I ask if this sounds about right for a untuned, standard 1.9 lump with a High top?

Many thanks!

Dunno about the high top but does not sound right to me, when an engine gets older and looses compression or if the carb or ignition are not well set up it will be down on power.

My DG tin top will do well in excess of 80mph on the clock on the flat ( I'm not admitting more), OK no high top but I can't believe that would shave 20mph off

The OP is going to have to check his engine code and tell us to allow better informed comment.

yes I remember now, I think it was probably deleted because it's a copyright picture.
Flickr have still not deleted my photos but I can't log onto Flicker because I immediately get asked to agree to the deletion, which I don't.

maybe it was this one....

Similar to that one, I seem to recall the angle as being less severe

I'm hoping the OP can identify what engine is fitted to their van

I do have a decent reconditioned engine, can cruise at 70, tho I rarely push mine past 3700 rpm.
