Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
Have you checked it has a safety cutout so it stops when the engine is not running but ignition on?
Have you checked it's appropriately fused?
It seems there are loads of vans out there with electric pumps fitted and no cutout or fuse
Don't want to be driving a death trap do you?

Re: Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
I just disconnected mine, its been on just 12 months and the regulator was seeping petrol, must have done 600 miles at the most. It was a kit put together by Heritage but the instructions were poor and the kit included parts that were not needed. Little or no advice from them and yet they sell these kits. Managed to get a relay from them £79 no instructions, trawled the net to find some and then it never worked, exchanged it but never fitted the replacement.
The problems I had were down to poor instructions and Im sure most other people have/had the same issue. I am back on the mechanical pump for the time being until I find a decent regulator, not the silver disc £20 ones though, any ideas welcome.
I still don't know the best way to fit it when it is going back on, take a lead from the coil or the oil pressure switch seems to be the way, i will investigate over the winter.
One thing is for sure, it ran so much better and the emissions were better for the MOT this year, coincidence?
The downside is the noise and I need to fit it on a rubber mounting.
It does not help that I have a PICT on a DG either.

Had 'em on my desk for months, did a 2.0l Aircooled a few years back with one, been great and worked as it should and continued to do so, so though i'd get some more, ended up in the pile of things we need to list and got buried!
Was looking for something else the other day and stumbled across them, rescued and then sat on the my desk unloved instead!
Customer asked the other week so thought i'd better get them listed!

Relay - Fuel Injection / Retro Fit
Rubbish description if I may say so
How about doing a kit with a pump, pipes, relay etc?

Re: Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
Hi Guys,
We just brought a 1982 T25 with a 1.9 DG fitted, I noticed there's a mechanical fuel pump fitted but just has no pipes attached and they aren't blanked. It's got an inline fuel pump fitted that probably isn't fitted properly as described in this thread.
It doesn't run well atm but there's a lot that could be causing this, I wondered if the original type pump not being blocked would cause issues to begin with anyway?
I assume the original mechanical type pumps are just not really up to the job and that's why people fit electric ?
Cheers for the help,
Adam.

Re: Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
Mechanical pumps are fine if they, the push rod and the pipes are in good order, people fit electric pumps because they can't fix the problems not because the pumps are a bad design, it's true some cheap replacement pumps are not very good. The old pump not connected won't do any harm.Ads1987 wrote:Hi Guys,

Re: Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
Some people including me fit an electric pump because the camper is not used for a couple of weeks here and there and fitting an electric pump puts less strain on the battery turning the engine to pump the fuel through. Be aware that some electric pumps do not provide enough fuel at motorway speeds, especially on hills. I had to change from a 'Facet posiflow' (the plastic one ) to the 'fast road engine' Facet cube. Normally the mechanical one is fine

It does feel rather underpowered on hills and motorways but I think also a combination of carb set up, got some tinkering to do !
Thanks for your helps guys

Compared to what? its an 80 horse engine in a great big van it will be slow up hills, the extra weight of a camper interior makes a big difference too. Having said that you should be able to get to 80mph on the speedo ( a bit over 70mph) on the flat on a motorway, if not something is wrong.

Re: Got an electric fuel pump on a DG or DF?
Yeah it will only do 55-60 foot flat to the floor on a flat road, comparing to a 1.7ky engine van I had before that was 57odd bhp. I appreciate they are slow but can feel the hesitation.
Had a look in the engine bay and there's a newish carb but very old perished fuel hoses etc so looks like it's probably all letting air in!
Just got to spend some time renewing all the old bits and removing dodgy old wiring and get to grips with what should be fitted !

Definitely check your petrol pipes if looking suspect.
I’d also check and adjust slack in throttle cable, access behind front drivers indicator. Was the first thing I did on mine and made a huge difference. Cable had so much slack that only 3/4 throttle was being achieved.
