The T3200E thread
Aka an Oettinger wbx-6 3.2 that found me by chance and collected on the way to T3Busmeet. I wasnt even looking for one! So many details that you've never seen before, so here's a few sneak peek pics

Yes, it will need to opened up for a full going-over. I also secured this:

That's one hell of an owners maintenance manual, is every page printed on an engine cover

Yes the 'S' spec is the high-compression version.

Re: The T3200E thread
Now that is what I call a wbx oil pump!
(Well, it does have to supply three more large bearings)

Re: The T3200E thread
One of the many unique items eh.
Can's see anyone borrowing that to fit to a WBX4, hope it's in good condition.
Do you know what the problem is with the engine, or is it a strip down and inspect jobbie ?

Re: The T3200E thread
Yes its covered in odd details like that.
Compression on two cylinders is down (I suspect burned exhaust valves)
Running rich (see above?)
Massive crank end float (about 2mm!)
Exhaust will need remaking, its complete but only good for a pattern.
It will be getting the full strip down but I will need to find some water seals, otherwise splice four into two...
The price was right and the opportunity wasnt going to come along again, so I said the immortal words "consider it sold"

Re: The T3200E thread
Have you done a leak test to confirm the leakage is from the valves, might as well before you pull it apart.
Good idea on alternate water seals, there's bound to be something out there that will bond sufficiently well.
Exhaust will be easy, just the pain of getting it all to fit in place when reassembling.
That just leaves the crank end float which of course is going to be the biggest issue. Do you even know if it is a one piece or three piece bearing, or another WBX6 special ?
I would have said the same too

Re: The T3200E thread
It is circa 1988 so I'm not expecting to find early bearings, but I will remove the flywheel before the day is out and that will tell all.
For the head water seals, if push comes to shove (i.e. there are none left, although rumours of spare parts abound) I can potentially calculate and CNC mill an O-ring groove into the head face and then make "false" seals from alloy, which could then be bonded to the top of the water jacket walls.

Re: The T3200E thread
Lunch break on the spanners.
The words were "wow" and "at least its only done for the flywheel"
I couldn't get the rear main seal out because the flywheel has swaged the alloy over :O
I wasn't expecting to find Passat 32B thrust washers in there either!
