Syncro AVK 4th gear change?

Postby mviszek » 01 Feb 2020, 11:14

Hi All here,

I am rebuilding the Syncro. I have there ADY 2,0 petrol engine 115 hp (swap) which I rebuild for that purpose earlier this year. Now, I have AVK gearbox 38/7 with the 4th gear 0,78 (according to my research).

As I need to rebuild the gearbox I thought about changing the fourth gear. The reason for this is that I am planning to travel a lot with this Syncro and would like to have the comfortable engine working with say 120 kilometers speed (no need to go faster) on the highway.

What do you think makes sense to consider? Could you recommend any change of the fourth gear? Or 4th and 3rd change will work better.

I will appreciate very much any of your suggestions and or recommendation.

Regards,

Maciej

Its a nice torquey engine and very smooth, we had one in a Sharan. Peak torque is at 2600rpm I think?
I wouldn't over-gear it, cruising at higher revs with a small throttle opening will use less fuel than lower rpm at larger throttle opening.
100km/h at 3000rpm would be about right for this engine in a syncro, or 120 at 3600.
The engine starts it's red line at 5800rpm iirc
