Missy the rhd Syncro “velle” tdi

Postby jamiegolf » 14 Dec 2019, 18:18

Hi all, not so new here but been loitering around for awhile, recently sold my doka Syncro that i imported back in June and recently got myself a rhd Syncro caravelle gl to replace it, it’s fitted with a 110ve tdi engine from a mk4 golf, gearbox is currently with aidan having a rebuild, she’s been dry stored for the last 9 1/2 years in a barn,
Here’s a couple of pics

Plans are to get it up together and ready, mot’d and on the road and then start playing with her......

Couple of pics from today’s visit to Aidan

Very relieved with Aidan’s initial stripdown report, looks to be in good condition apart from some pinion bearing wear and damaged G gear due to this wear, so new G gear ordered, and a good cleanup, new bearings and seals, SA oiling plates to be fitted and mainshaft bearing brace and it should be going back together in January........

Plenty to do between now and then tho, bushes to change, small bit of welding to do, brakes to check and fluid to change, bit of engine work to do inc cambelt/ water pump and filters.

I plan to have everything done by the time the gearbox and diff are both ready to collect and then it’s just a case of fitting them and it’s ready for mot........

not so great on the gearbox front unfortunatly, :( :( after aidan finished his detailed inspection and stripped both shafts down he found some more damaged/worn out parts,
it needs a new 1st/2nd gear synchro hub and new first, second and third gear sets due to dog teath and cone damage,
wrong seal fitted into the decoupler output flange and a few other small issues,
nothing that cant be sorted granted, so aidan is on the case!! but your box is in front of mine mattlad so you have first dibd on bits he finds

few pics of some more bits that have landed this week,
Image

decoupler output shaft not cleaned of its paint on the sealing surface either
Image

truck mirrors sourced
Image

and fitted the same day with new gaskets and stainless screws

Image
Image

ultimate engineering 20 deg adapter setup has also arrived,
Image
Image

syncro central in the workshop this xmas!!
missy the tdi and bob campbells freshly rebuild RHD converted panel van,
Image

going to escape over the xmas break to get down the workshop and get all the little bits done while the gearbox and diff is away
brakes checked over,
clutch pipe replaced,
fuel tank swapped,
modify engine mounts from a 15 deg setup to 20 deg for the new adpater to sitr correct and sit the bellhouing horizontal,
run decoupler vac lines,
connect up new led number plate lights,
remove all unused wiring from behind the dash (old lpg switch wiring and box, various relays ect ect)
sort the birdsnest of an engine harness from within the bay and eliminate all the screw block connectors and scotch locks
swap washer jets :D

penty to keep me busy for at least one day!!

I was a little premature on the congrats on gearbox news then.

Let me be the first to offer my condolences on the gearbox news... :run

I suppose once you take a gearbox apart you’ll find issues with all of them in some form or another.

Hoping to get a few bits done on mine over Christmas but we will see.

To be honest it’s not as bad as it could have been so I’m ok with the fact it needs a bit of work, Aidan will work his magic and it will all be sorted in good time I’m sure,
