Speedo massively over reading

Postby mattlad » 29 Nov 2019, 09:00

The Speedo is reading a ridiculously high reading at any speed in my van -

The PO changed the dial face (I think rather than the whole clock) from Kph to mph. At say 40 mph it reads 80 (or 130kph) where do I start to figure out why this is happening!!! Tyres are 195 r15 so little changed there in diameter would think.

Thanks

Syncro and 2wd speedos are geared different, the number on the face at the bottom tells you revs per mile/kilometre,synchro will be 1600 per mile and a 2wd will be 805 per mile so it may be yours was a 2wd clock originally

So 805 revolutions per mile against 1600 for the correct syncro clock- that’s why it’s reading twice the speed....

that's the problem MPH speedos for Syncro are rocking horse pooh unfortunately, GPS speedo is probably the way to go these days, or SyncroSport dash upgrade which gives you so much more functionality, compatability with alt engines and accurate speedo etc....

Or send it to someone like Speedy Cables and have it recalibrated to 1600?

I had seen the syncrosport upgrade - it does look great lit up in blue - just like my old Passat.

I kinda guessed mph syncro Speedo would be tricky and expensive to get hold of... does it need to be in mph for MOT? Think I’d be happy enough with kph just showing true speed.

You don't need mph for the mot, kmh is fine
