diff lock knobs

Postby scotttie » 23 Aug 2019, 07:51

Hi all,

Had to remove my diff lock knobs to replace the diff lock bulbs behind the display. When I went to put the diff locks knobs back on I looked inside the threads to make sure they were clean and noticed the threads were just falling apart. It appears the threaded insert in the knob is made from really poor quality metal. Either that or they have been cross threaded really badly in the past. The male threads on the controls look brand new. Anyone come across this issue before? I was wondering if it's possible to replace the threaded insert in the knob? Otherwise it looks like CVC are making some 3D printed replacements, unless anyone has a spare set of knobs for sale?

Thanks!
Scott

new ones should soon be available made in china, according to a reputable source; the 3d printed ones aren't very long lived
there are lots of suitable m5 threaded knobs available as alternatives massive choice on ebay, I even have a couple to try, it's a shame the originals are nla but the company that made them is no longer trading I believe and no one bought the tooling when they went

Same knob was fitted to FORD TW range in the 80s and 90s and 86/87/8830 series as a heater knob,I think it was a long time ago :run

Hi Scott,
I needed some diff lock knobs also but the only option was the 3D printed ones that CVC sells.
So I just did an internet search for M5 /5mm control knobs and found these on RS Components (think about £6.00 for pack of 10) RS part No. 448-8836
Not original but looks almost factory, these have a grip on the edge so easy to twist for the front locker and a metal brass insert for the threads.

Thanks for sharing this AIR_CHILLED. I resorted to the same search and ended up with these: https://www.berger-tools.co.uk/GN676.1-21-M5-A. Shame we cant get the originals anymore but I'm happy with how these look.

Hi chaps,

I use some brass inserts from RS for work, maybe you can salvage the original knobs with these.

RS number is 278-528 which has flush and flanged in it. Hope this helps.
