Why no bids ?

Postby Aidan » 27 Jul 2019, 07:20

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-T25-syncro-RHD-Front-and-Rear-diff-Hannibal-Roof-Rack-4x4-overlander/153573779369?hash=item23c1b5e7a9:g:FY0AAOSwMo1dExBm

I'm sure everyone has seen this for most of the last year at various prices on ebay, and I'm guessing on FB and elsewhere, so I wonder has anyone been and taken a look at it or can anyone explain why it hasn't sold when just about every other van listed for sale has sold often apparently for silly money ?

Just curious, I'm not going to try and snipe it, though I guess someone will

My guess is won't go above 60mph unless you have an expensive gearbox rebuild and 60 is probably thrashing the nads off.

It's got a lot going for it. But...£11k puts it into Westy territory (just about, I saw a 2wd Club joker hitop offered for £8k today) and its still a home-brew panel van, regardless of how well its been done.
Seller says the paint is poor and its got some rash, also has 97% feedback and that will put some buyers off.

It didn't sell. opening bid when I posted was £8k, must have been changed during the final day as he panicked as he didn't want to sell for less than 11k - iirc when it was very first listed it was £14k and noted how much had been spent on the awning set up and work by Coast, but now Coast isn't mentioned in the listing for some reason

Well the van is now in my possession. I went to have a look more for interest than anything else as we already have a Syncro that's having a restoration. The chap who owned it had over 10k of receipts from Coast VW and had spend many more thousands on bolt on bits. The issue with the gearbox was that it munched one of the gears and needed a rebuild which was done by Bear Motorsport via Coast VW. The issue is that they fitted the wrong gear set or wrong crown and pinion hence why it tops out at 60. We'll live with it for now though.

Overall it's fairly sweet for a van that's nearly as old as me and it has some really nice bits. We're really happy with our purchase and it means we can get out camping as our restoration is taking longer than planned.

Thanks Guys

We've spent the afternoon tinkering (me) and cleaning (wife) the van and already it's looking much better. Looking forward to getting it up on the ramp to have a closer look underneath. As far as I can see so far its never been welded.

We're going to go to busfest. in September but think we've missed out on the club tickets so might just go for the day instead. I think we'll also join the Syncronaughts club too as the events look awesome, been gutted the last couple of years as our other Syncro hasn't been on the road. Be great to meet up with some like minded people and hopefully learn a think or two about quirks of Syncro ownership.

The nice thing about buying this van is that its given a burst of enthusiasm to get on with the restoration of our other van as it's been dragging on.

I don't think the diff ratios have been changed in the gearbox, the chap wasn't to sure himself what got done but he said the crown and pinion had to come from america. What would be the symptom of having the wrong crown and pinion set? I don't know much about the inner workings of a gearbox I've only removed and replaced them.
