Squeaky wheel!

Postby scotttie » 05 Jun 2019, 08:46

Morning all,

So between around 0-35mph I have a high pitched squeak coming from my front nearside wheel. I'm guessing that the likely culprits are either a worn wheel bearing or CV joint. The squeak doesn't start straight away but only after I've been driving for awhile (maybe once the worn part has warmed up and expanded?). I jacked up the wheel yesterday and couldn't feel any play in the bearing at all. Turning left to right does change the frequency of the squeak slightly. Are there any other potential causes I should investigate or methods to try an isolate where the source?

Many thanks!
Scott

upper wishbone bushes? usually, sound like you have a nest of starlings in your wheel arch or stone in the brake caliper ?

? seal for driveshaft outer cv in the metal ring against the back of the upright which interlocks with the bearing seal, difficult to diagnose, could also be the metal ring is loose on the cv and the cv is turning but the seal and it's holder isn't

Can you feel any heat on it anywhere? Might help you to locate it...

Get it “warmed up” and squeaking, nip home and jack it up, (with axle stands) get an assistant to spin the wheel while you stick your head underneath ?

Thanks for the responses! I'll get it squeaking again and see if I can pin point where it's coming from.
