So does anyone know which RAL is close to VW Alpine White ... I need to repaint some panels and would like it pretty close in colour.

I am not sure what the original colour of my Westy was although I think it had faded over the years. I used the RAL 9010 which seems to be a standard sort of gloss white colour. I did fancy a complete change of colour but thought that that might mean a few more coats to hide the base white. The only problem now is that the hitop lets it down now so I will probably order another tin to give that a coat. I have read that rustoleum is ok to use on fibreglass.

As for the bumpers and plastic grilles I used Hycote Satin Black which seems to be ok to use on plastic and can be found in most cheap tool shops.

Covkid I will try and post some pics soon. I have just ordered some new decals so my next challenge will be getting them on in one piece. Looking forward to seeing other members hand rollered vans.

synthetic (truck coat) is what im doing my hi top with, because its oil based and stays relatively soft which is good over filler or fibreglass because of the slight movement that occurs.

It was a dull shade of grey/green before - now 1 coat of blue - even the neighbours like it now

Top job Glenn. Good to see pics of others that have followed suit - keep em coming!

Its ok once you get a feel for the roller and the paint. ChickenKoop was away once I got him started but I honestly think it needs a mate/wife/child around to watch and point out obvious runs, blemishes so you can catch them while its still possible to take care of them - hard to say working time but I found it was around three minutes.

Amazing paint when it rains Glenn - like water off a ducks back!

Yep - hycote for grills. Mine just needed a touch of filler etc in chipped bits of the grill and then a spray. Did rear vent grills with chrome paint - touch of class that.

Just spotted this thread via the "Paint your van for £50" entry on the wiki... I'm in the process of sorting the rust out, filling dents etc on my van... looks like this roller method could be what I'm looking for!!

I'll keep the forum posted with the progress and take loads of pics... :O)

ChickenKoop and I recently did a video of the roller method, I'll try and reduce the size a little and perhaps it can be added to WIKI.

I think I've also discovered a very smooth alternative to the rock and roll bed using parts freely available from DIY stores - ideal for someone building an interior from scratch. Give me a week or so and I'll add that to the WIKI too - bed construction is long overdue on 80/90 I think.

I just came across another paint that claims to be better than Rustoleum, POR-15, Hammerite ...It is called RustBullet
