After spending the morning under the van,
going the long way round adjusting a belt,
by having to remove loads of things because,
well maybe because I didnt have a sweet tool..

Its time to update a worn out socket set.

Any recommendations?
My feeling is Bahco,
only because I love the Bahco bits I have already,
and it seems to be reasonable quality/price.

Definitely dont want crap,
but probably wont be stretching to Snap-Ons

The Halfords Advanced stuff is generally seen as being pretty good value, and comes with a lifetime guarantee - see if you can pick it up in one of their occasional sales, or apply for a Trade Card and get it even cheaper.

Otherwise it might be worth looking at some of the BluePoint General Service Sets secondhand on eBay.

FYI, Bahco are now part of the SnapOn group.

Another vote for halfrauds advanced, I have had the big set for fifteen years or so and apart from loosing a 5/16 quarter drive socket and breaking a couple of small sockets and the quarter drive , which were replaced without charge or question under the lifetime warrentry, it’s very good .

Same here for the halfords advanced.. got two sets..

was a rumour they are actually made by blue point..

I have some Halford advanced tool, very good for the money.not broken sny of them yet and used a fair amount

Bought a Halfords advanced set on offer, absolute rubbish. Drives did not fit the sockets, the ball would not move out of the way for the sockets to engage. Gave the set away.

I still have the Gordon and Britool sockets from my 1975 moped days, just bought the sizes needed and added to them over the years. The Gordon ratchet driver however was killed by a 10 foot length of scaffold pole

Did you know you have to press the button on the ratchet to allow the ball bearing to drop into a detent? It's to stop the socket coming off when in use.

My draper expert 1/2 drive set is still going strong, way after my snap on 3/8 ratchet went bad and was replaced with a draper

Another vote for Halford advanced, had a set for a few years, good quality set.

Halfords Advanced when on offer.

Bought most of my stuff using a coombination of the 3 for 2 offers and gift card offers. At one point you could buy gift cards on zeek at about 90% of face value and then halfords had a promo that gave you an additional 10%? if it was loaded on to an iphone wallet.

Good value for the money and the lifetime warranty is supposedly quite qood - just walk in with the part and they'll replace.

I know one or two people who only ever bought snap-on, back when it was the only real quality tool with lifetime swap out warranty, They've all said the halfords stuff looks and feels good and if available back then would have saved them a fortune.

I'm a fellow Bahco fan, tend to get along very well with their kit.

Britool me, goes with the corduroy trousers, brogues and tweed jacket.
