belt-driven compressors come up on ebay fairly regular. presumably with suitable brackets once could be fitted in engine bay.

DIY Air Conditioning?

Is it feasible/legal/practical to build your own air conditioning system for use in a type25? Just wondered if anyone has done so or has an opinion on it :D

I think i'm right in saying that petrol versions are 45amp and Diesel - 65amp as standard. Mind you, a beefy battery wasn't far short of £70 if I remember but the upgrade is worth it if you're a power user. I would think that diesel owners probably have a big battery anyway. I vaguely remember havin...

90amp Alternator Upgrade

http://volksweb.relitech.com/90alt.htm I did this myself a year ago and added a meaty diesel battery to suit. I picked up a new 90amp through Ebay for bargain price of £25 one afternoon and sure enough I only had to change the pulley. One rather nice side effect of upgrading was that the cooling fi...

Theres a guy on ebay who sells 195/65 Durun tyres (set of 4) for £99. Fitted on 15" steel merc wheels these are very good tyres. Got them on my van. Excellent grip and wear characteristics. Mind you, I've not yet tried to squeeze a 15" wheel and tyre underneath at the front but presumably ...

Incidentally, blower units can (particularly when they've sat in someones garage or simply been unused for a long while), simply seize up. Mine burnt out and the replacement didn't respond so i gave the commutator (brushes end) of the motor a good squirt of wd40 equilavent and a couple of turns by h...

Cripes, 130,000 is a fair old mileage. Even if you sort out the problem there will be wear and tear throughout the engine and its a lot of work just to cure a leak. If you can afford it, buy a new engine.

MOTs are often subjective. I once put a bug through an MOT and they failed it on the bushes in the Z-bar on the rear axle. This Z-bar theoretically assists with towing a caravan or trailer and isn't on many bugs anyway so I just removed it. Took it back and he would NOT pass it - really dug his heel...

I think you'll have a real job if you can't actually see it. Darned site easier with the dash out but even then the blower unit tends to obstruct access. These pipes tend to keep their shape so it won't be too far away. Shine a torch in the jet hole and see if you can coax it out with some stiff wir...

Hmm, enthused this morning I had a last ditch attempt to remove these screws but even with an overnight soak in WD40 they simply sheared off one side. I've decided the best bet is forget missing screws and just seal the replacement blower unit up to the bulkhead. I can't see me wanting to repeat the...

Blower box screws

I'm trying to remove the blower box and there are around six 'meaty' screws that hold it on. The top ones are a PIG to shift to say the least. Presumably never been moved since the van was built. I sussed out that I could get to the back of a couple via the rad grill and gave them the cursory WD40 s...

As is often the case with manuals they don't always tell you the easiest way. You don't actually have to remove column - just remove shear bolts and two 13mm bolts below - it drops enough to give you room to remove dash;)
