Re: Temperaure Gauge woes!
To me things going wrong when lights are switched on points to an earth problem, when the lights are off there is a route to ground through the bulbs which is lost when they are switched on. Try running a wire directly from the middle terminal of the gauge to ground. The gauge going full over sounds...

Re: Temperaure Gauge woes!
Sounds like it could be the coolant level warning, assuming the expansion tank is full (the one in the engine compartment not the one behind the number plate flap), then pull out the "relay" marked 43 or 42 and see if that stops the flashing.. If not then could be an earth problem, the ear...

i would check the drive shafts to make sure everything is tight, the bolts can loosen and fall out.

Re: Dash Battery Light Woes. Trying my best
There is a diode in the warning light circuit, presumably to prevent current flow and hence glowing bulb due to voltage drop at the battery compared to the alternator, so for the bulb to glow either that diode is shorted or the voltage at the alternator is lower at the r terminal than the main one. ...

You could try Simon Davey (spannerboy) in Guildford. Think he is well regarded as a mechanic and is a club 80-90 member.

Re: Temperature gauge red flashing light
If you haven't got the coolant level sensor connected then pull the "relay" marked 42 or 43, that will disable the level warning but the overheating warning will still work.

Re: Blue Speedo Tape
The blue tape (part of the pcb) terminates in a connector to the oil pressure warning (buzzer of doom) circuit which is located in the speedo. It just pulls off, straight back from the speedo.

Re: Radiator sizes and qualities?
Virtually all the heat loss from the radiator is by convection, the colour doesn't really matter. Matt black rather than gloss white might be worth about 1% extra cooling through radiation, but an extra coat of paint would negate that.

I would suspect an earth issue, check the earth crowns and ensure there is good contact between the crowns and the body of the van.

Re: Cable Weight / AWG best practice?
Its more the voltage drop across the cable, the heavier the cable the lower the voltage drop for a given amperage. With 20A through 1.5sqmm you might drop around 0.2V per metre.

Re: Intermittent Blue Smoke Air cooled Engine - help!
I had intermittent white smoke on an old Reliant Scimitar due to brake fluid being sucked into the engine from the brake servo.
Diesel in the fuel gives white smoke as well.
