That's not a very nice thing to say about your engine!

Re: New exhaust glowing red! Any ideas???

After reading up on the alternative fuels forum I've just realised how important the mixture is when running on LPG. I know how to do the timing but I'm scratching my head after that. I assume that to a certain extent the carb is redundant when running LPG? By that I mean that to tune it I need to s...

Re: New exhaust glowing red! Any ideas???

Cheers Oldiebut Goodie. My first thoughts went to timing and in hindsight I should have done that first instead of worrying abouty bleeding it. Always good to get a second opinion though. And hindsight is always 20-20! Off to wiki to see how the timing should be set on LPG, and then no doubt the alt...

New exhaust glowing red! Any ideas???

Just finished swapping my old exhaust over for a new stainless version from VW speedshop. Had the engine out in order to sort a few issues: helicoils for a few of the exhaust studs, new clutch, engine and gearbox oil change plus renewed both the crankshaft oil seals and gave the engine a bit of a sc...

Re: Time to change the clutch and exhaust studs.

Good shout, think I've actually got one kicking about somewhere.

Any other sensible preventative maintainence whilst I'm dropping the engine? Already ordered the front and rear crankshaft seals.

Re: Time to change the clutch and exhaust studs.

Thanks very much Croc, really helpful information. I was about to ask you what a tap wrench is but having just done a quick search I find that I already have one. I'll let you know how I get on. Anyone have an answer with regards to the clutch? Can I change the clutch with the engine out, gearbox le...

Re: MAD workshop - votes of confidence?

Folk recommend that and its a good idea. Having said that I'd be more interested to see work they'd done a year or two ago. The place in question deal more with interior conversions of T4s and T5s now and admit they have done any T25 body work in a while. Seem very genuine though so I'm fairly confi...

Re: Time to change the clutch and exhaust studs.

Must admit my first thought was a helicoil type insert but after researching on here I've seen mention of issues of them coming out when removing. I suppose if the inserts them selves are cheap that's not too much of a problem. Were the ones you used easy to put in?

Time to change the clutch and exhaust studs.

After neglecting my van 1.9DG for far too long the time has come to devote some time and money to it. This has mainly been brought about as a result of the MOT failure due to rusty rear archs. This is being sorted next month when it's booked in to MAD workshops in Bristol to have quite a few panels ...

MAD workshop - votes of confidence?

As my van just failed it's MOT cause of rot at the front of the rear arches, it's time to put my hand in my pocket and have the multitude of panels replaced/sorted that I should've done a good time ago. Having had a bit of a search around and popped into a few restorers vauguely local to me, I'm lea...

Re: Flat battery

Not to hijack a thread but....... similar problem maybe with similar solution??? I've had a problem with my liesure battery not being charged. Starter battery is fine, approx 12v engine off and 14.5 engine on. However the leisure battery is at about 10v engine on or off. I checked the voltage on the...

Re: Knocking Noise from left side of engine... PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for the advice all. I think I'll try an oil change, sort out the cooling system and exhaust. I guess if it's the big end or crankshaft bearings it's a full engine rebuild or engine swap. Fingers crossed for tappets - it does sound like a slow sewing machine, just a really BIG one. Really anno...

Re: Knocking Noise from left side of engine... PLEASE HELP!

Tack or a Donk....... I'd have to say its a tack or a tic, and definately NOT a rumble. The van has been sat up for a weekish so I'll hope it's the tappets. I guess an iol change, a new gasket on the manifold and make a decsion on the expansion tank/cap situation. Just hope I don't bugger up the man...
