Lovely day out laning in Surrey...

'Thanks Neil for inviting us down, to drive the lanes in Surrey and see the beautiful trees in all their Autumnal golden glory.
Back by 6-30, so 10 hours in all covering a good few miles of bumpy, lumpy sunken lanes, got some great downland views, as well as seeing some types of landscape not expected in the home counties.

Damage: 1 tyre and a mirror, not bad!
That lunhctime duck was good wasn't it (you should have had the new potatoes too, yum, yum :) )

Thanks Again,

J&C

Just got back to a Skype msg from a mate around here.. \autumn colours are spectacular this year!

They are... mainly birch and beech around here, but quite dazzling tonally

Yes, think so, the number plate removal lane ...
Fortunately I'm a bit wiser to humps and bumps these days, and didn't fall for it, can't remember bashing my bump-plate or bumping my bash-plate either today, though cracked a bumper end-cap. Have just sellotaped it back on..

Think we estimated 50 degrees roll-angle on Neils at one point though

Reckon we have to buy a pub down there... you get a license to print money as well as sell beer & spirits

HM ...... stuuning pics. Thank you. :ok

This is what I like when going on my `off-road` little jaunts, many times on my ownsome. You can stop anywhere without the concern of following traffic (usually 2 metres from your tail!!) and take pics of some, perhaps never to be repeated, sights. ....... when I remember to take my bloody CAMERA!

Eric.

Unfortunately not mine eric :)
... but these last few years have produced some fantastic falls, apparently due to:

Warm wet Springs
Hot Summers
Sunny Autumns with cold (but not freezing) nights

Lack of freezing nights and gale force winds keep the leaves on the trees longer
.. allowing the yellow (xanthophyll), orange(carotene), brown (and red) pigments to show through as the green (chlorophyll) rich skin dries and dies.
The rarer red and purple pigments (anthocyanins) develop in some types of leaf to shield and thus help transfer the last of the leaf energy back into the tree before they fall

So there! Isn't nature wonderful :D

just wondered if anyone had any tips for good routes in West Sussex/Kent ? Not looking for anything too 'exciting' at this stage, just somewhere to get away from it ...

Well, yes, thinking about it..

Neil mentioned the ancient sandy heathlands in Surrey, so as the sun was getting low, we headed West, towards Tilford/Farnham area and about the last lane we drove was through such a heath...

Old common land, lots of wildlife and a few lakes and ponds. But for the clock ticking, I think we would have stopped and jumped out for a stroll a round there, that's the sort of place it was... might suit!

Is this is the lane you are talking about Clive? lots of scope for wild camping round their, infact Jake has i think near the lake.... here is a link but please stick to the track unlike this c-unit who thinks he can drive were he likes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS-zgs1iWOA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Some great sleepy spots round that way, and a few lakes/ponds you can set up BBQ next to as well. A full weekends laning if you really want!
