1.9 DG bogging down under demand peirburg2e3
our T25 is bogging down under power demand. the carb is revised with a new kit and set up as per the various youtube guides.
it starts well, ticks over well, and runs well until fully hot.
i think the mix and idle are about right at tick over.
i just cant make it run smooth when its time to drop the clutch. it only goes with plenty of revs well in advance.
any idea?
thanks

Have you tested the coil with a multimeter?
So it runs ok for a bit then starts to run rough when it’s up to temperature or when the choke comes off?
David.

its had a different coil to check its all ok. but not verified recently.
well it runs fine all day hot and cold when its ticking over. revs slowly climb and then rebalance as it gets hotter.
its when you lift the clutch to set off it bogs down and clutch in to stop the stall. #
many revs (3-4k) and it will set off seemingly normal but stalls going to second unless you give it plenty of gas and let the revs climb again before lifting the clutch.

When I’ve had bogging down before I adjusted the little cam that delivers the fuel to the carb’ and at the same time I looked at the accelerator pump diaphragm and it had a very small perforation so I replaced that and all was good. Easy to do both with a screwdriver.
I also changed my ignition amp quite a few years ago after having similar problems.
Have you checked the fuel filter, fuel lines/ connections and the cone filter on the carb’ fuel inlet. All vacuum lines throughout etc?
David.

ok good call. thanks for suggestions.
all filters are new and new lines throughout. petrol pump seems strong and float chamber is full but cannot verify the diaphram. i wil lcheck the cam and the coil.
also checked the timing but it seems to run more advanced (7-8degs) than the book says (5degs btdc). but it stalls at 5degs. thats another problem for another day.
defo the worst engine and carb combo i ever had the misfortune to need to keep running.

Once you sort out the niggles it’ll be fine. It’ll be something simple I’m sure.

Check the distributor vacuum unit (suck on the little pipe, it should hold vacuum)
They often fail at this age and get forgotten, causes an air leak which messes up the mixture.

Also check/ replace the ht leads if you haven’t already. I had a similar issue and changed the leads on the side of the road and all was good after that

I sent my pierburg to Bromsgrove to be refurbed, it was not cheap but the carb is 100 times better than before, more responsive and more fuel efficient. I would recommend them.

Sadly Roger at Bromyard has been poorly so isn't taking orders for the foreseeableadsnape wrote:I sent my pierburg to Bromsgrove to be refurbed, it was not cheap but the carb is 100 times better than before, more responsive and more fuel efficient. I would recommend them.
