Diesel Heaters

I save all my sensible questions for here as FB is a festering mass of stupid.

Diesel heaters…….

I’ve had two Eberspacher D2 Airtronics and were rather fab.
Have seen Planet and Mikuni are now making them. Obvs Webasto is still int he game.

Just wondering what the heater of choice is these days?
Have absolutely no interest in fitting anything cheap from aliexpress (our trusted business partner - no fluff!) and spending time and effort rebuilding it and fitting German etc parts.

Quality is wayyyy more important than price.

Oh

Happy Xmas n stuff.

Webasto - latest models are far superior to Eberspacher! I did have a comparison table of the Webasto STC against the Airtronics but cannot find it at present. Webasto STC are supposed to be quieter and more efficient but I doubt that there isn't too much difference other than brand loyalty.
I would prefer to work on Webastos as the odd Eberspacher that I have had in was much more challenging to work on and diagnose. ( I try not to touch them at all now )

Although Planar say they are no longer manufactured in russia it is still owned by two russians who changed their address to Israel to attempt to get round the world's dim view of their country. The money is still going to russia. ( I perused the company's registration details when people kept saying that they are not russian now ). I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

Mikuni catered for the marine market mainly, robust heaters without the sophistication of Webasto and Eberspacher. Mikuni do not exist as such anymore - the heaters are MV Airo offerings now.

Oh Webasto, where are you now? I wanted to install one of their great fabric sunroofs in another vehicle but understand that manufacture or at least importing to the UK has stopped of all sunroofs has stopped.

Webasto have stopped making aftermarket sunroofs - OEM only now after all these years.

I've got the same dilemma but looking at a cheap option as can't see what you're paying for with the premium models. Any reason why this wouldn't be fine?

Has anyone put one of these under the driver's seat as my kick board is full of subwoofers :P ?

Are diesel heaters quieter than propex heaters? Can they be tapped in to the engine fuel line instead of a seperate tank? Just curious for a future upgrade maybe?

The difference between the Chinease copy heaters and the original webasto or eberspacher or planer night heaters is the build quality and materials , and of course the safety features you are not getting with the cheap ones , they are cheap for a reason . That’s not to say they are no good , but dont expect it to be the same quality or last as long

As for fitting it under the drivers seat, you do realise that the suspension and main fuel tank is under there don’t you ??

You can mount a webasto in a weather-tight box under the floor, provided you haven't utilized the space for tanks.

My webasto is mounted under the glovebox. With a fuel tank sat in the spare wheel.
