Fuse Board Buzzing

Hi All,
Hope your well, I’m Luke and we have recently bought a VW 1988 T25, Carvella with a 1.9 Subaru engine.

A couple of questions,
When we are driving above 50mph we get intermittent flashing on the batter light and a buzzing from the fuse board area in the glove box.

Any ideas where to look?
Thanks

Also it take a few attempts to start, do you think we need a new start motor?

The first thing is to clean the earth crowns.

Followed by checking that all connections to the rear of the fusebox are clean and secure.
I would concentrate on the spade connections.
'P' terminals with the fat red wires.

Awesome, thank you will have a look tomorrow in the light. How do I upload photos on here?

the battery light came on / flickering when we started the high speed run, and then ended up staying on continuously till we stopped. However at certain rpm, different speed in each gear the battery light went off.

The camper drove with no issue

Hmmm - have you done any work in the engine bay?

The way you describe it there, I would look at the cables to the alternator.

You need to ensure that the cables are clean and securely attached.
Blue wire is the charge light trigger.

And fat reds are what charges everything.
If your cables are loose or dirty, then you may get weak or intermittent voltage, which also means your battery won't be getting charged properly.

Have you checked battery voltage with ignition off and then with the engine running.
To check output from alternator and battery.

Thanks, it’s a recently purchased van. So no work yet.

I have replaced the battery as it’s sluggish to start.

I’m just waiting for my multimeter to come in the post. To check the battery.

What’s interesting, is when the battery light is on permanently and bright. There is no buzzing at any speed.

I have cleaner the terminals and checked the tightness of the securing points of the alternator terminals, found hand tight. Will test on a long drive home tomorrow. What’s the relay next to the battery for? Thanks for everyone’s help

Check and clean the grounds on the crown above left of the fusebox. Ive had dodgy earths cause relays to freak out.

Best thing to do is check all the cabling and make sure there are no loose connections. When you get the multimeter you can do all the usual checks to make sure the alternator isn't borked.

That relay next to the battery is probably some split charge for a leisure battery or for the fridge when driving.

Hi thank you all for the help. Cleaned the the connections on the alternator which I found dirty and since then haven’t have the buzzing. However will keep a close eye.

Having a bit of a nightmare, can’t finds a post or unable to find out how to create a new post on here.

The round glass lense of the headlight fell out. And I can not figure out how they fit in securely. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks
