Brake reservoir missing something

Can anyone please advise what missing from the top of the brake fluid reservoir?

It's clearly lacking something and brake fluid has definitely been sprayed about in the instrument cluster.

I'm guessing it some type of cap or shroud that fits over the electrical connection?

Cheers

The cap top on mine was missing when I bought the the van in 2006. And still is. I have never had a problem with it.
