Plastic impeller broke

Hello all,
My water pump disintegrated the other day, and the impeller broke apart while it was being driven.
Luckily it had just got home and while it was hot it did not seem to overheat I am told, but that remains to be seen.

Most of the impeller I can piece together but a few shards are still in the cooling system.

Has this happened to any of you ? if so what did you do ? what should I do ?

Any advice appreciated.

T25 Diesel 1y converted....

Cheers.
Glenn.

Very common on VAG engines. Had a plastic impeller water pump on my wifes TT.
Replaced with metal impeller pump when i replaced timing belt.
Also had one loose on pump shaft on a VW Polo. Caught in time.

I suppose I have to dismantle entire cooling system and ensure no bits remain.
But how would you get the out of the engine galleries ?

The remains of the impellor wont travel far because once it fails, there is no flow, so most of it should be close to the pump in the block.

As Silverbullet says it'll be sat there waiting for you or take out the thermostat and flush the system with a garden hose, won't go wrong

Cheers,
all flushed found no parts bigger than 5mm, some of impellor unaccounted for still, but expect all will be fine.
Will report back when I have driven it for a while.

Heres to hope...

Glenn.
