JX Cylinder Head Crack

Post by StoneRoses »

Hi

Removed head from my JX today, as suspected failed gasket was allwoing gasses into the coolant (subject of another thread of mine).

As anticipated, head has cracks between all four pair of valves, from what I've read commonplace and not of major concern.  But cylinder #3 has minor (minor to my untrained eye)  crack from its pre-combustion chamber:

What are my options here ? Using a straight edge I couldn't detect any warping, or observe other damage to the head. I've not examined the block in any detail yet.

Engine only has ~80k verified miles, runs well and  performs OK for a heavy vehicle (Karmann Gipsy).
Cheers
Gareth.

Not uncommon the cracks. They are much worse at operating temp as the metal has expanded.
Heads in these are throw away and replace every 120km
