You can usually see combustion gasses as bubbling in the coolant and the inc in pressure
will force fluid into the tank behind the number plate flap.

And of course a milky coloured substance in the oil cap and dipstick.

only if coolant is leaking into oil

gasket can just let go between combustion chamber and coolant bores or head can crack allowing gas into coolant channels hence products of combustion in coolant, and over pressurised cooling system
