Engine Mounts question
Morning!
We recently had the engine mounts replaced on our 1991 T25 Komet. Since the work was done the engine noise has been much louder inside the van when driving. Does anyone know why this might be?
Thanks for any suggestions and Meyy Xmas.

Re: Engine Mounts question
petrol or diesel, original rubber or poly or something else repurposed from a different vehicle ?
why did they need replacing, have you double checked fittings are all tight ?

Re: Engine Mounts question
Thanks Aidan,
Its a 2 litre petrol RHD.
We had engine mounts outer and inner and gear box mount replaced. They weren't repurposed from another vehicle.
We were told that all the mounts were "pulled" hence they needed replacing.
We don't know what material they were made from. Does this make a difference?
We took it back to the garage and they say everything is fitted alright.

Re: Engine Mounts question
1991 it's either a 1.9 or a 2.1 (1915cc or 2109cc)
The 1.9 and 2.1 are what we call waterboxer or wbx, and the mounts will be rubber, but they may be more or less compliant than the original ones, but after 30 years they do delaminate
I don't think anyone has made them in poly
For the gearbox mount there is an option for a poly replacement rather than the original rubber, some people find the poly is a little more prone to nvh noise
pretty obviously different so you will be able to see looking under which one you have

Re: Engine Mounts question
The problem with many garages who are not specialists go to town with rattle guns and thus over-tighten everything which is the wirst thing to do in rubber bushes as they become stretches like tight guitar string and lose their resonance absorption ability.

Re: Engine Mounts question
When mounts are new, they can make the engine sound and feel noisier than usual.
I replaced a mount on one of our cars and it felt awful.
After about a week, the mounts settled and any noise and harshness had subsided.
Give it a few weeks for any new mounts to settle.

Re: Engine Mounts question
Thanks, the work was done a few months ago and we have taken it back to the garage to no avail.
We will look at the pictures in earlier post once we have got over Covid!

Re: Engine Mounts question
All I can think of is that something has not fitted in the right alignment.
Therefore something may be rubbing.
Again I have had this too - (not on my van) in my case an exhaust was not fitted correctly causing it to rub against the underside of the car. The garage was insistant that my big end bearings were worn, hence the dreadful resonance.
In the end I tweaked the exhaust myself and peace was restored.
The thought here is that something may be loose or routed slightly out of kilter.
