Adding a turbo to a 1.7 diesel?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Adding a turbo to a 1.7 diesel?

Post by CoalMarx »

Is there definitely no way of doing this? Pretty sure the answer is no. My dad said no, but then he wondered about replacing the top of the engine. Would a 1.6td work as a donor?

nope, different block, the 1.7 is a different beast to all the other VW diesels so you can't swap heads with the JX
The block wont have the oiling jets that a turbo engine has so the pistons will likely get too hot
If you want a bit more grunt the 1Y and it's cousins are the usual upgrade to a 1.7
all THE above afaik, I don't do diesel, the T3 was designed around a flat 4 petrol engine, anything else is wrong  :rofl
