Starter motor

There seems to be a vast difference in the price of starter motors for my camper. Are the cheaper ones (flea bay ) worth buying. Offering a 5 year warranty & decent feedback, but are they too good to be true or do people tend to use them.  Does not get a lot of use. Thanks

I would go for a known brand. Far too much junk about even at places like GSF, ECP (budget brands). Buy once, buy right.

Stick with the likes of Brickworks, they know their onions with parts and are very well priced.

Surely there's somewhere in Barrow that refurbishes starter motors, ideally Bosch approved or agent ?

I think is just the solenoid not conducting when energised, but have read in the forum that you need some special tool to strip & repair them so thought I would replace the whole thing if they were a reasonable price.

Yes, or at least there used to be I haven't looked for years now & suspect he has probably retired. I was thinking it might be less hassle just to replace it.

Probably worth checking the trigger wire for the solenoid is not corroded. The end of it is exposed, and on mine (and many others) there was green crusty high resistance corrosion at least a foot back. Replaced this wire (after trying several different solenoids ) and starting problems were over.

I had the same problem. I replaced the starter motor and it happened then. Every now and then the solenoid would just click but nothing else. I replaced the solenond and it seemed better for a while then came back. I replaced the starter motor bush on the bell housing as I am told that can cause it but it stilll happened. I have now replaced the ignition switch and so far so good. I have replaced the entirel starter system except for the leads but as it seems to be either not working, or perfect, it seems unlikely to be that. Sorry that isn't much help but it is my experience. The only other thing I can think of is that the starter motor itself has a fault?

I got fed up with ordinary starter motors and their problems. I bought a hi torque one (not cheap) and several years down the line all is good.
