Wowzer that is bad!!

My bay window has a pre filter(scooby conversion but I kept the same factory fuel injection style pump) setup so I will be doing the same sort of thing when I scooby my DOKA

Doesnt rain but it pours! So now I can hear the fuel pump priming which is music to my ears but she wont start. Engine turns over sweet. Fuel level is low though. I have done 92 miles after putting in £30 of unleaded. Thats pour fuel consumption if thats the reason for the non start. Cant be bothered looking at present as its pouring down and cold.

Oh dear.

Well, you need to know if it's fuel or ignition, so pull off the return pipe and do the flow test

Two birds with one stone :)

Yeah I am pretty sure its low fuel but my fuel consumption works out to about 18mpg if thats the case. Blimey, I dont drive it like its an impreza

Easy to find out. Put some more fuel in and see.

Weird. Had less than a litre of fuel in one of my cans in the garage. Put it in and fires up. Guage goes up to quarter of a tank, admittedly the van is parked face down the hill on my drive.

Not wierd at all, when you realise the gravity of your situation.

Outlet is at the back ouyt the tank, sender is towards the front.

Had a similar thing a couple of weeks ago on the daily. 16 miles left in the tank, but wouldn't start the following morning. I pushed the car off the drive onto level ground and she fired up straight away

I like the pun, 'gravity of the situation' :-)

Just a thought...was the new fuel tank painted (& baked) or powdercoated before installation?
If so, the internal strainer may have melted and be restricting the fuel supply, causing the pump to cavitate and overheat.
Might be the cause, might not, but you seem to be clutching at straws at this stage.

In my experience, the new tank I have on is sort of crap, I am on my third pump Bosch if I take the 12mm off the tank hardly dribbles out even with the filler cap off, which means pump is having to suck as well as push, I have tried all sorts, increasing return pipe to allow fuel to cool cos it cavitates, after a long journey the pump starts to whine ( cavitation) try pulling the pipe off the tank to pump see what happens

The tank I have is from brickwerks. Wouldn't they have checked this as they are renowned for selling decent stuff?

That is normal, it will not run out other than a dribble. Very handy when I am fitting heaters- it means that you don't need to block off the outlet to stop a deluge of fuel. It is due to the design of the pipework inside the tank. There used to be a good cutaway picture of a tank around on the forum that showed why it doesn't flow out.

My tank wasn’t from brickworks and yes I have seen that cutaway picture I think it was on the samba, just seems strange not to flow out if your using a hi pressure pump
