Automatic Pierburg Carb

Post by maxstu »

Vehicle...2.1 DJ AUTO/PAS/ABS

Despite the silky smoothness of a DJ, l am often nonplussed and head scratching by the fuel injection system. It really does has mind of its own. Far too many ohms, resistance and relays for my small brain.
So am considering converting DJ to carb (and maybe DIY LPG) as l have a basic understanding of this set up. However l was just browsing eBay and saw a listing for an auto carb for a T25.
Do l really need an auto carb? Whats the difference to manual...which l have ready and waiting in my garage? Will it have an impact upon such things as the PAS or ABS if l swap to carb using a manual version?
Regards
Stuart

Hi Stu

I have a Manual Carb fitted to my Auto.

to fit on an Auto you need the Auto Linkage rod and use the Auto Choke cover (manual is fine but water heating pipe exits in a different direction)

there are small jetting differences but mine adjusted accelerator pump to match auto and it works perfectly.
Don't buy a Brosol as they don't work properly (I read it here I think)

wont affect the ABS unless abs takes a signal from the engine ECU but I doubt it on an 80s jobbie.

you won't have the idle up for the power steering (just set idle slightly higher)

Hi Rick,
Hope you are well.
Good info thanks. Ive got a pierburg and manifold waiting to go on engine if l decide to go carb instead of digijet. It will be easier setting up LPG with carb
With hindsight ABS is likely (yet not 100% certain) remote from engine electronics.
PAS has an idle control increase. Not sure how it works. Vacuum perhaps? So extra idle will be an easy option.

Thanks mate

Its a rarity. (Not the polite rely) The PAS a pleasure to drive and park. However the factory ABS unit sits under passenger seat. So leisure battery behind nearside wheelarch inside engine bay. A real pain to get at. Or add to. Lots to move aside to remove.
ABS never tried in anger. Too much general tat and camping gear inside to start flying around if tested. The system does a strange start cycle. Like letting a bit of gas out of a cylinder. So assume it works.
In hindsight just another system to monitor and service
