Door actuating rod problem

We’ve got a persistent problem that’s arisen with the opening mechanism on our passenger door. The issue is with the rod that runs from the inside handle to the door catch, which is regularly ‘detaching’ itself from the catch mechanism when the inner handle is pulled.
I can’t see any additional means of retaining this rod on the driver’s door, which might stop it popping out when it’s used there, so I am a bit stuck on how to fix the passenger door.
Does anybody have any advice on what we might try?
