Good morning,

I have now purchased and applied Captain Tolleys Crack sealant to areas I believe water are coming in from and have aired the van so it is bone dry. When it comes to weather proofing the high top what can I use or does this need to be done by a specialist? It is a fibre glass high top. Thank you all for advice so far re Captain Tolley, Insulation padding, acetone and seals etc. Also does anyone know what the metal beam across the inner roof is for? beneath all the shelving there appears to be half a roof and this metal bar running across which has either snapped in the middle or was made that way. Only discovered when took off the original hessian lining. Also I am in the Leicestershire area if anyone can recommend good garages etc.

When I am more experienced I hope I can offer help to someone too as I feel I am not offering much to the forum yet and would like to give back

Hi we had a leak around the vent on our fibreglass high top. Once fixed I cleaned all the green etc off with cream cleaner
then used some stuff from a firm called A GLAZE it was advertised for use on boat hulls. It was a 3 part process (took a while) but the results where great. Looked like a different high top. Wasn't cheap but imho was well worth it.

Is it a springy round metal bar? Might be one of the headlining bars, sometime called bows. Would have held up the original headlining.

Keeping the roof well waxed stops the water osmosis.
I use carnuba wax.
It's not cheap but its effective and lasts 6 months

I removed everything so I could get to the fibreglass and metal. I then left a directional heater running for say 20 minutes in each corner to make sure it was bone dry. Then I got some cavity wax and effectively made a ‘moat’ round the perimeter of the hi top

Got a few trickles of wax running down the van but just wiped them off. Next step is to reapply some polyurethane sealant (£5 from toolstation) and then overpaint with fibreglass paint.
